What is Lawo Flex?

Lawo Flex is a licensing model that caters to three budget strategies: Perpetual licenses, Flex Subscriptions, and a user-definable mix of both.

Perpetual Licenses

Some users prefer to own the processing and controlling functionality they use. This remains possible for HOME Apps, via perpetual licenses for a specific application. Users who want to leverage two or more different HOME Apps are free to purchase several perpetual licenses for unlimited use.

This corresponds to purchasing dedicated, bespoke hardware like before, with a flexible twist: many HOME Apps allow using a variable number of inputs and/or outputs, depending on the required scale. Permanently licensing three HOME Multiviewers with 6 inputs each would also allow operators to use 12 inputs for one HOME Multiviewer instance, 4 for the second and 2 for the third.

Perpetually licensed apps include the basic functional package, the requested number of inputs and outputs, and other licensed functionality. Plus free-of-charge access to SD, HD, 3G and 4K UHD resolutions where applicable.

Whereas perpetually licensed functionality delivers exactly what it has been purchased for, Lawo Flex Subscriptions are more like a budget: operators can allocate it to any available HOME App or hardware functionality in ways that dynamically suit their workflows.

Flex Subscriptions

A Lawo Flex Subscription provides a selectable number of “credits” that reside in a virtual wallet. These credits are available for the duration of the subscription (up to 5 years). While they are active, these credits can be flexibly allocated to the functionality an operator needs at that point in time.
Unlocking an app or functionality is a simple matter of allocating the required number of credits. The benefit of Lawo credits is that they are not tied to a specific app or add-on—nor need they be linked to a given location.

Flex Subscription credits are also available for licensable options on .edge, and even to unlock power-user NMOS functionality within HOME. While an app or license is stopped or spun down, the credits it consumes are released and can be spent on other HOME App, .edge or HOME functionality.

This is a bit like returning a hardware device you don’t need to the manufacturer and asking for another that does something else. As long as the latter costs the same, there is no additional cost involved. Flex Subscription credits are entirely function-agnostic and can be used for different applications at different times.

During the subscription term, Lawo Flex credits do not burn down: they remain active until the subscription term expires. This is precisely why stopping a HOME App can release the credits associated with it. Additionally, credits of different subscriptions can be freely combined to address short-term peaks.

Unlike perpetual licenses, Flex Subscriptions provide an elastic, entirely customer-centric usage model. With subscriptions, customers get access to dynamic license keys, which can be allocated on demand to any function—any time, in any system. Not only is it possible to use processing capability only while it is really needed—thus avoiding long-term investments in functionality that is mostly idle—the Lawo Flex Subscription model also provides access to all HOME Apps and add-ons (inputs, outputs, formats, etc.) as well as licensable options for other Lawo hardware and software that is available today and in the future.
